Jordan Norwood Sustains Concussion

December 19th, 2011

Jordan Norwood

The 2011 season has been one to remember for Jordan Norwood. On Sunday afternoon, however, it took a turn for the worse.

At some point during the Browns’s OT loss against the Cardinals, Norwood sustained a concussion that, according to head coach Pat Shurmur, will leave the wide receiver as day-to-day.

Just under 3 years removed from being signed by the Cleveland Browns after going undrafted in 2009, Norwood was having a breakout season, especially in the second half. He was given his break when starting receiver Mohamed Massaquoi went down with an injury for the Browns’s October 30th matchup against the 49ers. He quickly capitalized on his new opportunity, picking up a career-high 5 receptions. Since then, he has recorded a catch in every game and scored his first career touchdown.

In fact, Norwood has been playing so well that he is the 6th most efficient wide receiver (based on his Defense-adjusted Yards Above Replacement) in the NFL amongst receivers who have been targeted between 8 and 44 times. If you want more in-depth comparisons of NFL receivers and where Norwood stands among them, go to Football Outsiders if you can make sense of it all.

With Colt McCoy at the helm of the Cleveland offense for the foreseeable future, Norwood should continue to to be one of his favorite targets.
