Devon Still to Miss Senior Bowl with Toe Injury

January 23rd, 2012

Devon Still

With the beginning of Senior Bowl practices less than 24 hours away, news has emerged that defensive tackle Devon Still will not participate in the week’s festivities.

As SB Nation – Pittsburgh points out, the Twitter feed for the Senior Bowl originally announced that Still had dropped off of the roster, while Jason LaCanfora adds that Still’s absence is due to a sprained big toe. LaCanfora also reveals that Still will be ready to go for the NFL Combine, which starts February 22nd.

Fear not though, as there will still be three Nittany Lions participating in the premiere college all-star game; Jack Crawford, D’Anton Lynn, and Johnnie Troutman. As I mentioned in the intro, the week of practices, which are just as important — if not more important — than the actual game itself begin on Tuesday morning in Mobile, Alabama. Scouts from all 32 NFL teams will be watching all week long, culminating in the actual Senior Bowl on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.. It will be aired on NFL Network.

Don’t expect Still’s stock to drop any, if at all, due to his absence. As of now, the consensus among the Interwebz is that he’s slated to be a Top-15 pick in April. ESPN’s Mel Kiper has Still going to the Chiefs at 11 in his first Mock Draft, and CBSSports.com even has Still rated as the 7th best player in the entire draft class. I don’t think one week of missing out on all the fun will do much to change that.
