Week in Review: Troutman Hopes to Play, M-Rob in Hollywood
We are inching closer to things actually happening in the NFL, as training camps are only 2 weeks away. For now, we continue to deal with the summer lull. Too bad there’s nothing else going on in the world of Penn State football to keep our minds off of the lack of NFL news.
Anyway, here’s what happened with your Penn Staters in the NFL this week:
Troutman Tweets He Could Play This Year
Only a few days after being drafted by the Chargers in the 5th round of this year’s NFL Draft, news emerged that offensive lineman Johnnie Troutman was likely to miss his entire rookie season. As you can see above, on Tuesday evening Troutman tweeted that he plans on returning at some point during the 2012 season. While this is only Twitter and it’s almost what you would expect to hear a young player facing a lengthy recovery like Troutman is, it’s a sign that there is at least some shot that we’ll get to see him protect the pride and joy of NC State in 2012.
In case you missed it or don’t recall, a few weeks before the draft, Troutman suffered an injury to his pectoral muscle while lifting weights and was forced to undergo surgery. He is also recovering from a knee injury that he had suffered while playing in this year’s edition of the Senior Bowl. The initial prognosis was that he would miss the entire year, but that was more speculation than an actual timetable due to the uncertain nature of injury recovery.
I think I speak for all of Nittany Nation in hoping Troutman the quickest (and healthiest) recovery possible.
The Real Robinson Report at the ESPYs
In case you haven’t heard yet, Nittany Lion fan favorite Michael Robinson started an internet interview show called The Real Robinson Report just over a year ago. The show has been quite successful on YouTube giving a behind the scenes look of the NFL — especially his own Seahawks — through sit downs with some of the biggest stars in the game.
Last week, the show reached a new height, as Robinson took to the red carpet of the ESPY’s and talked with athletes from across the spectrum of sports. Highlights include RGIII acting too cool to talk to Robinson, M-Rob calling Vince Young an elite quarterback, a Mighty Ducks reference, DeSean Jackson being DeSean Jackson, and some laughs with reigning MLS MVP Dwayne DeRosario (any chance to incorporate soccer into the site!).
A compilation of all the interviews put together is embedded above, but I would recommend heading to the show’s YouTube page and checking out some more of the Real Robinson Report.
Brooks Gets Time in NBA Summer League
Due to the lack of Penn State football alumni news, I decided to throw in a little basketball action in last week’s Week in Review, as Talor Battle and Jeff Brooks had been tapped to play in the NBA summer league. After a week of games in Las Vegas, Brooks is the only member of the duo to have seen any time on the court.
Brooks appeared in back-to-back games for the Washington Wizards on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, he didn’t make much of a dent on the game, as he only played for 10 minutes and recorded 2 rebounds and a block in that time.
On Saturday, he had much more of an impact, as he played 23 minutes — good for 3rd most in the game by a Wizard. He also added 6 points, 2 blocks and a team-high 9 rebounds. Not all was positive in that performance, though, as he managed to pick up 5 personal fouls and a minus 10 +/- ratio (2nd lowest on the team) over the span of those 23 minutes.
